We felt it important to maintain a traditional sense of streetscape at pavement level. The landscaped forecourt, sited at the junction of Jacob’s Ladder and Cliff Street providesa hard landscaped, double volume covered pedestrian access to the primary hotel entry lobby whilst at the same time provides an attractive and engaging public space adjacent to the café.This is effectively a pedestrian realm defined by the huge projecting Moreton Bay Fig tree and the rising escarpment and stairway to the rear.
As the building rises out of the embankment, screening and landscape elements soften the interface along Jacob’s Ladder. The building is sculpturally articulated in flowing forms to create dynamics for light and shade effects during the day and night.
The street level café provides reinforcement of streetscape and public domain; it services the needs of the local commercial and residential communities and contributes to the amenity of the hotel’s occupants. The al fresco seating adjacent to the footpath and in close proximity to the large Moreton Bay Fig tree provides a cosmopolitan interface with the street.
