The proposed mixed-use development is a substantial reworking of collective sites, together with a vision aimed at clearly signalling the entry to the Hobart City Centre Fringe zone.
Whilst the proposal seeks to integrate with its contextual surroundings, a reimagining of the locale is also envisioned for this transitioning urban, light industry precinct. With a range of compatible existing building types varying in size, scale and function, the development will act as a catalyst for a zone that is in flux.
It combines the character of heritage buildings with newer contemporary development along this primary city axis and will signify an entry statement to the city proper.
The proposal incorporates the substantive retention and restoration of the significant fabric of the heritage buildings, together with the retention of non-heritage portions of the buildings on the site.
A clear distinction between new and old, or heritage and non-heritage elements, is achieved through the proposed deconstructed appearance of the 1941 addition, along with the use of glazed roofs and other glass elements such as the lift insertions.
